it has been our local circuit's two day assembly this weekend.
it takes place at bristol assembly hall.
from what i recall seating capacity is about 1200. .
At Haysbridge Assembly Hall (Surrey, UK) we always used to eat lunch in our car, but were were in the minority. Most would love to sit inside in the eating areas.
Sounds like the brotherly love is getting a bit lukewarm!!!!!

I remember one book study (probably 10 years ago now), the topic being discussed was jehovah's sense of justice preventing him from destroying Satan right back in the garden of eden.
I raised my hand and said that surely if jehovah is the creator, the sovreign, the be all and end all of everything then he would KNOW that he is right and satan is wrong. Therefore he should have no compunction in destroying a rebellious angel at the outset.
The book study conductor didn't know quite how to deal with that.......because....... shock horror I had made a comment that was NOT contained in the text of the book we were studying.
I was critically analysing the facts!
In my humble opinion and experience book study conductors have apoplexy when a question is asked that is NOT in the book!
if jws really cared about making disciples they would never use outdated ways to get their "lifesaving message" across.
knocking on doors, knowing that most people aren't at home, is simply a waste of time.
driving around from one part of town to the other side in order to stretch your time, while doing return visits is simply a way to not reach people as quickly as possible.
I had never really thought about it like that!
But it is true - in the last 20 years or so the majority of publishers and pioneers are just going through the motions to be able to put in a decent report at the end of the month. The real purpose of what they do has been lost in the mindlessness of it all.
If they truly believed that it is the end then they should be using TV, Radio (think of all those 5/10 minute slots that vicars etc have on Radio 2 with Terry Wogan every weekday morning) and of course the internet.
Could it be that perhaps if the greater world audience got to know in detail about their beliefs that they would inevitably end up subject to a closer and more public scrutiny. The religion would never stand up to public opinion, and it would most probably result in even more numbers of existing JWs leaving.
At the moment, out of the public gaze, they are able to keep a tight rein on existing JWs and keep the mind control games and the emotional blackmail alive.

think about it---witnesses proclaim that their identifying mark is love.
they are the "most loving organization in the world".
they personify christ and are the only "true christians".
The "love" is only surface deep and is conditional on the recipient continuing to attend meetings, go out on the service etc etc etc.

Dinosaurs were usually taken to be a myth, and all the fossils that were found were hoaxes (like the Piltdown man, which was used regularly as the example of how "corrupt" scientistis were!!!).
checked my other threads and noticed i had not covered this in reference to our kids, thought it was important.

do any of you have children, in their early 20's who are pursuing their education, and are they doing well ?
I love being able to take my daughter to Junior Choir, knowing that she will be able to join in all the concerts - and not having to miss out anything to do with Christmas carols, Easter concerts etc etc. There is no guilt about attending choir practice every Saturday morning!
I left the dubs when I was in my early/mid 20's. Since leaving I have (to my astonishment!) now got a masters degree (LLM) in law, been promoted at work a few times, and now manage a county wide team.
My parents (also ex dubs/ex elder) have supported me through all this - for which I am very very grateful!
There is definitely life and opportunity after "JW life" , but you can only benefit from this if you leave the JW religion.

Another thought occured to me. It is World Mental Health Day tomorrow. I am sure there is an article discouraging JWs from seeking counselling and support from mental health services.
Anyone else remember that??

i run another discussion board on yahoo for former jw's.
anyway, one of my members there said she was listening to hank hannegraff (bible answer man) with ron rhodes and the discussion was about jw's going into churches for "new recruits".. he said the process goes as follows....the jw's don't tell anyone they are jw, they wait until the invitation, then when people go forward, they go as well and befriend new christians and invite them to a bible study.
he said it was referred to as "sheep stealing".
I was in for 20 years (left 7 years ago) and never went into a church - it was certainly never encouraged.
